To begin with, this is a great release, especially when one considers the fact that this is one of the few rare releases to come out of Hong Kong. The first song started immediately without any intros or build-ups. After a few seconds, listeners would be able to notice the similarities to Incantation. Dark guitar riffs, doomy interludes, low guttural vocals very similar to Craig Pillard or Mike Saez, and pounding drum patterns. Upon continued listening to the rest of the cd, Iisteners would notice more Incantation-influenced guitar riffs and doomy bridges and parts to the songs. There are also blackish riffs everywhere. The overall ambience and feel of this release is really grim and dark. The title 'Black Sun' therefore is very suitable. Listeners who are depressed and suicidal would relate really to the songs. The songwriting in this release is good. Although the riffs and arrangement are somewhat simplistic in nature, listeners would not notice that aspect immediately. This is because although the riffs are simple, they are at the same time good and stay in the mind, especially the minds of depressive and suicidal listeners. The production is awesome. The guitars are crushing, even when the riff is simple, the crushing production helps to make the simple riffs sound majestic. The blend between the instruments and the vocals is perfect. Listeners would be able to really make out all parts which then helps them to get into the doomy feel of the songs. The doomy parts remind listeners of earlier works of My Dying Bride. Many listeners who are already very familiar to Incantation would conclude that this is a carbon copy. But this band deserves to be listened.
