This is a CD i haven´t listened to in years (Only because i currently don´t have access to it), but i have so much affection for it that i can´t help but post a review. If you´ve heard HYPONIC´s previous full-length CD, this release from them isn´t very similar; on their debut, HYPONIC play decent INCANTATION style Doom/Death Metal that isn´t overly unique or inspiring - here, HYPONIC play a dark, powerful form of Doom/Death Metal that crushes their first effort into dust, no doubt along with many other Doom/Death Metal efforts from the competition. What´s really interesting is that this CD actually *SOUNDS* Chinese (HYPONIC are from Hong Kong), in a way i can´t describe effectively in words... there´s an ominous, grandiose, ´ancient´ aesthetic here that demands the listener´s attention; this music isn´t just Death Metal played slowly. The atmosphere it radiates is rife with emotion, and commands authority. I can only type so many adjectives and loose comparisons to stress the point: this is powerful Doom/Death Metal that towers above many other records the underground has to offer, and in my opinion it´s classic material that´s worth your ca$h. Buy it if and when it´s ever in stock again!
